Hi Members!
From the polls I’ve been hosting in my members-only stories, it seems like the vast majority of you would get a lot out of a bindrune tutorial! So today’s Inner Circle post is just that. I hope you enjoy my little how-to… and feel free to share the bindrunes you create using this tutorial! I would so love to see them.
Happy crafting,
Marin

Keep In Mind
Making a bindrune is a very individual experience. Everyone does it differently, and there’s no right way to do it. Generally speaking, anytime you draw more than one rune connected to each other, it’s a bindrune. This guide, however, is geared towards teaching you how to think about crafting bindrunes as an intentional spiritual tool. Use it as a starting point, and let your practice evolve and grow as you discover what works for you!
After you recognize a situation in which a bindrune would help you, ask yourself the following questions to get a better idea of the framework to use in your creation:
Do you want your bindrune to be Carved or Drawn?
What kind of Shape and Space restrictions are you working with?
Does it make more contextual sense for it to be Symmetrical or Organic?
A couple other things to keep in mind:
- Don’t Ignore your Intuition!
- There is Intention in the Act, and that can be more powerful than the individual meaning of the runes themselves.
- Each rune has Multiple Meanings, so if a rune is calling to you, it could be that you just haven’t discovered it’s relevant meaning yet.

1. Purpose
For your first step, choose a rune that expresses the purpose of your bindrune. What are you using this bindrune for?
Examples:
- Protection: Algiz
- Improvement: Ingwaz
- Transition: Dagaz

2. Subject
For your next step, think about the subject of your bindrune. Who or what are you trying to affect? Draw this rune either overlapping or otherwise attached to your first rune.
Examples:
- Self: Mannaz
- Home: Othala
- Relationship: Ehwaz

3. Outcome
And lastly, think about the outcome you want to achieve with this bindrune. What is the endgoal? Once you pick a rune to represent this, overlap or attach it to your bindrune. And be sure to return to the questions at the beginning to determine the placement!
Examples:
- Truth: Tiwaz
- Balance: Gebo
- Wealth: Fehu
Use Your Bindrune
Now that you have your bindrune, it's time to use it in whatever way feels right to you! Here are just some ideas:
- Include in cleansing a space
- Use it to focus your shadow work
- Carve or draw at the entrance of a space for protection
- Embroider on an herb sachet for a spiritual bath
- Mark on the cover of a book of spells or important notes
The bindrune that I used as the example for this tutorial was the first bindrune I ever created for myself. I use it for meditation or nature walks, and it helps me connect to my deeper values and desires. Feel free to use it for your own use as well!
Let me know how your bindrune crafting journey goes in the comments. I wish you all the best! Much love,
Marin
