Hi dear members,
To finish off my "Beginnings" Series, and in anticipation for Sunday's shop update, I wanted to share my early sketches for all of the current masks in my "Mythic Beasts" Collection!
I started crafting leather masks back in 2011, for a job as a Costume Designer. I worked a LARP (Live Action Role Playing) kid's summer camp, making character costumes for the counselors to wear. I made countless leather masks for them over the course of 9 years, finally stepping away to start working on my business full-time at the end of 2019. But from those endless designs and experimentation came my own self-taught, unique way of making leather masks! I also began my Mythic Beasts Collection with designs that were inspired by masks I had made while working at the camp.
The wolf, raven, and dragon were the first masks I crafted for my Mythic Beasts Collection. All three were inspired by masks I made previously (below you can see my earlier designs for a wolverine, a magpie, and a sea serpent "storm god"), but with edits that made them more streamlined, customizable, and featuring new inspiration from Fenrir, Huginn & Muninn, and Jormungandr. After the base three, I added my Witch's Black Cat, which quickly became my favorite mask I've ever made (I'm obsessed with cats)... Almost a full year passed, and I finally decided to continue adding animals to my leather mask jungle. After many rounds of brainstorming, I finally settled on a design for my Fox Mask, and named it after the fox from the Irish myth of Brigid.
And now, after much waiting, I'm excited to finally be releasing the most requested mask design yet... Click to the end to see my sketch for the Berserker's Bear Mask, and keep an eye out for the big reveal tomorrow!
Have an idea for next week's Inner Circle Post? Let me know in the comments!
Much Love,
Marin
